Juniper HairstreakPosted by Daniel K. (Austin, United States) on 1 November 2006 in Animal & Insect. Callophrys gryneus Hairstreak butterfly species are ubiquitous and appear over much of North America. This particular variety is one of my local favorites due to its interesting coloration and striped extremities. They're commonly found basking in sunny areas. Note to self: go macro shopping -- it's not easy to chase small butterflies around wielding a 50mm prime.
