Argiope aurantia
This is one of my backyard residents. This particular female had constructed a phenomenal web roughly five feet (1.5m) high and nearly as wide across. From hind to front legs, this specimen measured just shy of 5 inches (12.5cm).

Thanks to all for the kind words. I'm very happy that I was able to preserve the moment, as the subject has since passed on (photo was taken on October 19th). She constructed a couple of egg sacks prior to her demise, so I'm sure I'll see one of her descendants next summer. :-)
